I will openly admit that I dont know much about ActionScripting. In fact, I dont think I know anything about it. I have a little more than basic knowledge of Flash...but I like to make it look like I know more.
I just try to work with what I know, which is always a disadvantage, because many times I have to scale-down a layout plan, because I dont know how, and when I look up the codes...I just cant follow to save my life.
Im am one for learning, but I can only understand so much at a time.

Re: Dont know much about ActionScripting, but
Mon, October 20, 2003 - 9:11 PMMaybe you're trying to learn too much all at once? It's best to start with simple examples and move up from there. It's a bit overwhelming to dive into complex examples that you find online. Have you tried going step by step through a Beginning Flash book? Or taking a class? -

Your probably right
Tue, October 21, 2003 - 9:19 PMThe beginning flash books are a bit TOO beginning for me. I know how to make a circle, and make a button, and what scenes and Movie Clips and all that are.
And then, the actionscripting books are too much for me.
There should be some sort of middle ground, Im guessing.
But, no, I havnt taken a class, just all book learning...and tutorial downloading learning as well. -

good resource
Thu, October 23, 2003 - 8:00 AMHey there.
I have to say, I found lynda.com's "Advanced Flash 5" cd to be extremely helpful in explaining and demonstrating AS basics--because 5 is the version when AS really developed based on javascript. So the cd explains moving away from its earlier language to new conventions, including basics like addressing.
No doubt their "Advanced Flash MX" is even better (and I'm sure they'll have an MX 2004 version coming out soon).
Also, the Flash 5 Bible is an excellent resource w/good as examples (in the book and on cd), so a more recent Bible can help, too. Lots of great examples in action, and they go into more detail than Macromedia's documentation does.
Hope this helps... a lot of it is practice.
cheers,
Devra (a.k.a. Electra)

Re: Dont know much about ActionScripting, but
Thu, May 5, 2005 - 6:58 PMumm.... manoj, this tribe here isn't exactly the place to drum up bizness yanno. we (quietly) talk about our female experiences with flash and how we as a group are somewhat of a minority... even in design women are a minority... but i for one am willing to learn what i can to be competitive... i'm working at a co. where i'm the one and only html/flash web designer. i get to redesign the site even!... haven't quite been able to yet. but oy i'm supra busy.
i can't say i'm a fan of outsourcing either, there is quite a crisis here in the states for a good graphic design/ web design/ web programming etc etc. job here. even freelancers are having problems...
anyway, gals... i check out flashkit dot com quite frequently for the tutorials and scripts that i need. if it's a downloadable tutorial, i take out their stuff and insert my own. i learned a lot about AS that way. but i agree, lynda.com is the greatest. i learned flash 4 and dreamweaver 4 way back when... now i do mostly hand code (html and some javascript.)
