Hello. Anyone know a good refresher tutorial or book?

Hi everybody.

My name is Anna and I just started an Actionscript class at (Sf) City College. I took two Flash classes about a year ago and but haven't had my own computer or Flash to practice on for about a year....I am excited to start again, but rusty and my class if for folks who really know Flash and I'm falling behind.

Does anyone know a good online tutorial to get me up to speed or a good book to get? (Maybe a book on the cheaper side as I am a bit short on funds?) I'm forgetting basic stuff like key frames, but I know that I was really into it and just need a refresher.

Thanks!!

  • you can always go to flashkit.com and go through different tutorials there. (flashkit.com/tutorials/). one thing about tutorials though - most of them are very specific to one thing. so the best thing is to create a project for yourself (i.e. make a small website) that would involve all the things that you want to learn. and keep working on it, and when you get stuck search for a specific tutorial.

also Flash has some lessons and tutorials in the help folder i think. try those as well.

sorry can't recommend any good books - haven't found one myself.

how's the AS class? is it worth taking? i was thinking of doing it myself.

    • Thanks Masha.

Another person in my class suggested flashkit too. I'll have to check it out. It seems like a good class. It's online which is nice bacause I'm pretty busy, but I do miss the one-on-one aspect of an in person class. The instructor seems knowledgeable and pretty nice.

      It'd CS183b at City College.

        Hi there..
Check out Kirupa.com if you haven't. That site helped me a lot. :) Good luck with your class!

        • is lynda.com still making tutorial books? i always found them to be easy to go through and learn... i'm such a visual learner, all the pix helped a ton... i basically learned flash and dreamweaver in a weekend (on vhs no less!) ... back when it was flash 4 and dreamweaver ultradev 4 though.

anyway, i've been working in flash mx for so long (and so used to the actions palette there) that when i was pretty much forced to use 8, i had to learn actionscript as i go. ...i have a rush project for a client that's due in a day... so all weekend its been flash 8, actionscripting, stupid scrollpane (is a pain) and won't work... can't figure out this thing! aaaah, i'll make a click scroll instead... tee hee!

thank goodness that's the best way i learn. i learn pretty much on the fly. and now i think i should also take an actionscripting class. good luck with that!
